“Almost anything can be turned around: out of every ditch, a path, if only you can see it.”  Hilary Mantel

This piece is a celebration of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s appointment to the American Supreme Court. I thought of the importance of women holding positions of power as I pieced each square. I finished sewing the binding at the Gees Bend Quilting Retreat in Mississippi, while Mary Ann Pettway and China Pettway sang their hearts out to soulful gospel. I photographed it after Roe v. Wade was overturned and all women in the country to the south of me moved backwards 50 years.
