Clouds are the answer.
When the news of the world is too much and too ugly: look up. Cloud watching is a portal, and a decision to take a break, to slow down, to observe the ever-changing beauty above our heads. Colours, shapes, structures: there are worlds up there.
Like water, clouds are slippery things, and hard to capture. Painted fabric, hand-sewn ribbons of contrails, rays of light and dancing colour, reflections on water, and the solidity of the horizon are all elements. I tried to capture height and depth, expanse and reach, darkness and light to give the piece complexity. The size of the work speaks to the vastness of my subject matter.
This is a summer‘s-worth of work, and a summer’s-worth of cloud gazing.
