If you’ve ever spent time in the woods, you understand the title of this piece. There, dimension, texture and depth surround you, built up over time with the changing seasons, with the shedding of organic matter, with decomposition and regeneration. Hard surfaces are made soft by lichen, moss, and leaves. The muted colours of the forest floor are punctuated by velvety green, rich orange: dabs of colour turned dramatic by contrast.
I loved building this piece. The texture of linen contrasted with the texture of silk, the intricate piecing, the softened and rounded shapes, the deep and intense quilting. A study of stones.
