Lac des Chats, tiny lake in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec. The deep blues of the silky summer water, the rippling of underwater currents, the slippery puddles left behind by canoe paddles, the dark oiliness of soft water. Then, the ringing glow of thick ice, traces of blue shimmering under the surface, whirlwinds of skidding snow.
To capture the lake in all its beauty I used many shades and shapes; small mosaic groupings to shimmer, long pieces to reach out to the horizon. The heavy quilting undulates and swirls: liquid in summer, whirlwinds of snow in winter.
We love the lake in all its seasons, in all its colours, but we especially love it when it is many shades of blue.
